Our Story

StringWorks is an exclusive home decor brand that designs and crafts modern and elegant home décor products. Our venture stemmed from our love for homes and our passion for innovative designs, attention to detail and high-quality products which have a striking simplicity. We are a social enterprise established in January 2017 with the vision to support the underprivileged girls in the urban hamlets of New Delhi. We started on a humble note of creating a vocational centre where we carefully selected and trained unemployed women and girls into hand-weaving attractive gift articles. The primary aim was to create alternate sources of income for those without opportunities or skills to support child education and sustainable livelihoods. This is our small and passionate endeavour for providing a sustainable solution to poverty.

Our Founder

Born and brought up in New Delhi, Ashita Dhir is an management graduate from the Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi. She is the Founder and CEO of StringWorks – Weaving Sustainable Livelihoods which was launched five years ago, in January 2017.

Ashita has always been a part of social impact spaces and projects from her teenage years. She realised her passion for serving the community eleven years ago when she joined YP Foundation, a non-profit organization, where she was engaged in developing youth leadership for social change, as a volunteer and core member. In a span of two years, she got involved in various projects - from being a peer facilitator in a youth awareness campaign encouraging conversations and discussions on the legacy education system in the country, to providing education and life skills training to homeless children with limited access to schools and other facilities. In May 2011, she was a Research and Fundraising Volunteer with eApne Aap International,

a non-profit organization working earnestly to support women and children, who were victims of human trafficking and flesh trade. Ashita contributed to the organisation’s success by garnering $35,000 worth of funding for rehabilitation programs aptly which boosted her zeal to do more for the community. Consequently, in 2012, she took up an interesting, albeit challenging task of designing training modules for primary to secondary level English and Math courses as a Teaching Assistant at PRAYAS - The Neighbourhood Project.

Through StringWorks, Ashita has created a platform to provide financial stability to the unskilled, unemployed women in the community. The idea behind StringWorks was to create a sustainable business model, wherein these women had the flexibility to manage other aspects of their lives all while creating financial freedom for themselves. This was brought to fruition by providing them crafts skills training to produce handmade home decor products.

In Ashita’s words “The biggest joy I get is when I see each one of them exhibit confidence from the newfound financial freedom and share their personal stories of efforts they are making to uplift their families. This was possible only because they were keen learners and fully invested. None of this would have been possible without them working alongside my vision.”
